CODE was registered as Centre for Community Organisation and Development Trust under the
Trustees Incorporation Act of Malawi in November 2003. As an NGO, its focus is to support
grassroots social movements of the rural and urban poor.

It supports and builds the capacity of communities to effectively engage in dialogue in the pursuit
of their needs. The underlying philosophy is to empower communities to take charge of change
and be drivers of their community processes. This presents a shift in the paradigm, from viewing
communities as mere recipients, beneficiaries and onlookers, to players, partners, and participants
in development.

CODE has received funding from (KULIMA) More Income and Employment in the Rural Areas of
Malawi (MIERA), a GIZ program, facilitates activities that will accelerate the use of sustainable
and resilient building materials that will help save the environment while promoting livelihood
