Madisi Economic Empowerment Intervention
In partnership with the Global Impact Serve Ministry of United Methodist Church of Resurrection we are working with communities in Madisi Dowa in a quest to socio-economically empower the people in these communities.
The project provides technical and financial support to both farmers and those running businesses to increase the communities’ agricultural productivity for a food secure Madisi and increase income generation to help the communities meet their daily needs and have a better livelihood.

LEARNING MONITORING AND EVALUATION
This is a people-responsive five year program that allows communities to “learn by doing”. It uses a bottom up approach in planning and engagement with duty bearers. The program resists the dominant tendency of viewing M&E processes in a traditional sense. M&E process under this program is not privy to professionals or just a tool for compliance but rather it is part and parcel of standard community business, undertaken through participatory dialogue and reflection by the poor and directly linked to local action. Central to LME process is the legitimization of knowledge created within poor communities.
The learning, monitoring and evaluation (LME) program is aimed at strengthening community process through data collection and advocacy. Strengthening community process focuses on community mobilization, community Organisation and re-Organisation and capacity building exercise. This process is driven by savings groups that provide a supportive space for poor women and youth – boys and girls, to become active local organizers.
- The program has supported 132 urban poor communities to organize their data as a basis for development
- The program has increased access to finance for land and housing for 496 families through Urban Poor Funds (UPF) ed with agricultural Investments and business skills
- The program has Improved livelihood opportunities mostly for informal settlements women and the youths
- Inclusive Community development through collaborations and partnerships between communities and duty bearers


IMPROVEMENT OF THE HEALTH AND INCOME SITUATION OF THE POOR RURAL POPULATION IN THE DISTRICTS OF MULANJE AND BLANTYRE-DESWOS
The improvement of the health and income situation of the poor rural population in the districts of Mulanje and Blantyre projects is being implemented with financial support from the German Development Assistance Association for Social Housing (Deswos). The project that started in 2019 is for three and half years. The project intends to improve access to sanitation and hygiene by among other things constructing culturally acceptable sanitation and improving hygiene behavior. It is also strengthening the sanitation value chains in the targeted areas.
- Improved well-being for 700 households through the construction of Ecological sanitation (Ecosan) toilets with a bathroom attachment and hand washing facility
- Improved behavior and practices of 5000 families through enhanced knowledge of better sanitation practices and hygiene knowledge
- Strengthened community responsiveness in the development agenda of their communities
- Improved school sanitation at two public primary schools of Khaya and Chimwaza through the construction of 54 student Toilet and 4 teacher Toilets
